How Can The Graston Technique/IASTM Help Me?

Scar tissue is a type of fibrous connective tissue that forms after an injury that is thicker and less elastic than normal tissue. The buildup of scar tissue is referred to as adhesions.

These scar tissue adhesions are thought to cause tendons, muscles, and ligaments to clump together, impeding proper movement. The use of the Graston Technique/IASTM causes muscle fiber separation, which helps to break up the scar tissue adhesions, reduce pain, and increase functional mobility.

How Is The Graston Technique/IASTM Performed?

We will isolate the treatment area and use one of our Graston Technique/IASTM massage tools to glide across the skin surface. We will apply enough pressure to effectively separate the underlying muscle, tendon, or ligament, which helps to release adhesions, reduce pain, and improve mobility.

The amount of pressure used with the instrument and the speed at which it is done will vary depending on the nature of your condition. After each treatment, the affected area will be stretched.

Most patients receiving the Graston Technique/IASTM will typically undergo two treatments per week for a five weeks. You can generally expect to experience relief by the third or fourth treatment.

Benefits of the Graston Technique/IASTM include the following:

  • Reduction in inflammation
  • Reduction in pain for a better quality of life
  • Boost in cellular activity for good health
  • Breakdown of collagen cross-links
  • Increased mobility and ability to perform daily tasks
  • Increased rate of volume and blood flow to affected areas to enhance healing
