Don’t Ignore Your Lower Back Pain!
Are you someone who pushes through those mysterious aches and pains that crop up occasionally? Do you just assume your lower back pain will get better on its own? While this can work out, it’s not a guarantee. If you’re struggling with back pain, make an appointment with McCabe and Brady Physical Therapy and seek the treatment you deserve.
Lower back pain is one of the most common musculoskeletal ailments globally, with an estimated 80% of people experiencing it at some point. But just because it’s a common experience doesn’t mean it can’t cause complications: around 23% of the world’s population suffers from chronic back pain, pain that lingers for longer than three months.
The good news is that physical therapy can resolve most cases of back pain. At McCabe and Brady Physical Therapy our therapists are certified in the McKenzie Method, allowing us to pinpoint the exact source of your back pain, restore your motion, and prevent recurrences without surgery or dangerous pain medications.
But to get to that point, you have to take the first step and make an appointment with the physical therapists at McCabe and Brady Physical Therapy.
Need a little extra push? Keep reading to learn why you shouldn’t ignore lower back pain.

Three Reasons to Seek Treatment for Lower Back Pain
- It could get worse. People develop lower back pain for all kinds of reasons. If you suffered a sudden injury, your pain might indeed resolve on its own. But sudden injuries aren’t the only cause of back pain.
Many people will develop back pain due to prolonged sitting, repetitive movements, or other factors like weak core muscles, which can all contribute to putting undue strain on your lower back. Fortunately, our McKenzie-trained therapists don’t just hand out generic exercises, we identify the movements that influence your pain and prescribe targeted strategies that get to the root of the problem. - It could indicate a serious underlying condition. Not all back pain results from an injury or poor posture. Certain medical conditions, such as spinal fractures, osteoarthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis, can all cause back pain. If left untreated, your symptoms will get worse, and they might bring friends, such as restricted mobility or additional complications.
Using the McKenzie Method, our therapists can determine whether your pain is mechanical and treatable through specific movements, or whether it requires further medical attention. This level of precision ensures you get the right care quickly. - You deserve a pain-free life. Back pain may be common, but it can also be debilitating. Intense, persistent pain can keep you from staying active, which only worsens your symptoms and delays healing. It’s a vicious cycle that keeps you from fully enjoying your life.
At McCabe and Brady Physical Therapy, our spine specialty focus sets us apart. Our therapists are trained to restore mobility, reduce pain, and teach you how to control symptoms on your own, giving you lasting confidence in your back.
How Does Physical Therapy Help with Back Pain, Anyway?
When it comes to back pain, movement is definitely the best medicine. Research repeatedly shows that regular exercise can reduce back pain and keep it from occurring.
That’s why physical therapy is such an excellent treatment option. At McCabe and Brady Physical Therapy, we make the McKenzie Method the foundation of our care. This approach uses repeated movement testing to identify exactly which exercises and postures will help you. It is a patient-driven system that not only treats your current pain but teaches you strategies to manage your spine for life.
Here’s what you can expect when you start with us:
- Find the cause. Our in-depth McKenzie-based assessments identify the true source of your pain. Instead of masking symptoms, we determine which positions or movements relieve or aggravate your back, then build a plan around those findings.
- Manage pain. We offer several techniques for managing pain so you can get moving again. Manual therapy, mobilization exercises, and evidence-based modalities provide relief as your body begins to recover.
- Get moving. We’ll design a personalized exercise program that reflects your McKenzie assessment results. You’ll learn which movements reduce your pain, strengthen your core, and support your spine.
- Prevent future pain. By teaching you how to recognize early warning signs and adjust your posture or activity, we equip you with lifelong tools to prevent flare-ups.

Sitting is the New Smoking: 3 Tips For Staying Active
Think about your typical day. How much of it is spent sitting? If you’re like most people, the answer is–a lot. Hours at a desk, time in the car, and evenings on the couch all add up. Prolonged sitting does more than make you stiff, it increases your risk of back pain, heart disease, diabetes, and even cancer.
At McCabe and Brady Physical Therapy, we specialize in spine care. Our therapists are certified in the McKenzie Method, which means we can pinpoint how sitting affects your spine and prescribe movements that reverse those effects.
- Tip 1: Take frequent breaks. If you have a desk job, set a timer to remind you to get up every 30 – 60 minutes to move around. Use these microbreaks not just to stretch your legs, but to perform your McKenzie exercise. A few targeted movements can reset your spine and reduce discomfort before it builds.
- Tip 2: Stretch while you watch TV. While watching your favorite show, add the stretches your therapist identified to help you reduce your pain. This helps undo the strain of a full day of sitting.
- Tip 3: Pick up a new hobby. Active activities such as gardening, walking, or dance classes keep your body moving. Even small daily choices, like standing during phone calls or taking the stairs, provide relief for your spine.
Want to learn more about the risks of sitting and how to avoid them? Schedule an appointment with McCabe and Brady Physical Therapy today. Our McKenzie-certified therapists will identify the exact cause of your symptoms, teach you how to manage them, and give you strategies to stay active for life.
Our Patients Get Great Results
“Thanks to the team at McCabe &Brady, I got my strength back and am on the right track to a complete recovery. Thank you Rich for your words of encouragement and kindness. My doctor tested me on my last appointment, and he said he had to check his chart to see which shoulder he repaired, because they were both so strong. What a compliment, you deserve it!“
